Four With Massachusetts Ties
Quincy Market at Christmas, late 1980s.
Climbed to the top of the hill on Summit Avenue in Brookline. From there, if it was winter and the trees were bare and I had binoculars, this is what I could see looking towards Cambridge. You can see traffic running along both sides of the Charles River. In just about the center of the photo is the Cambridge power plant at Western Avenue and Memorial Drive, with the row of cyan-colored windows. Kodachrome, January 1990.
In Brookline Cemetery, Benjamin B. Davis (the elder, 1765-1807) was a Revolutionary War Veteran, but I cut his name and dates off. It displays Benjamin B. Davis (the younger), his son, who died in 1877. Kodachrome, 1989.
On the left is Representative Gerry Studds, first member of the House of Representatives to come out as gay. That was in 1983. This photo was taken at the March on Washington in October 1987. I was there with other Chiltern Mountain Club members from mostly Massachusetts. Gerry Studds represented a district in Massachusetts. The man on the right was, I believe, publisher Sasha Allyson.
