More Press For Hotel Lautner

This time in Modernica. The article includes a photo of the motel from about 1950.

From his years at Wright's Taliesin West, Lautner understood the desert, and living on the desert. With this intimate knowledge, he designed the Desert Hot Springs Motel. Each of the 4 units became a walled fortress against the elements: heat, cold, wind, sand and encroaching suburbia. Even as a fortress, light floods in as the unit space flows out to the private walled patios — truly a desert oasis.
