INFORMATION:

On 11-1-09 officers were dispatched to a home invasion robbery that had just occurred at the above location on Sarita. Two males, one dark- and one light-skinned, about 18-22 years old, had just entered the victims' residence and stolen property from them before fleeing.

The two female victims reported at about 4:45 PM a male subject knocked on their door. As they opened the door the second suspect appeared carrying a large semi-automatic handgun. He pointed it at the victims and ordered them to go inside the house and lie down.

Both victims, fearing for their lives, watched as the suspects went through their residence looking for items to steal. The suspects took their laptop computer and a jar of 50 U.S. Dollar coins before fleeing the residence. Officers were unable to locate the suspects.

A few days later, detectives uncovered information which led them to a male, later identified as Elijah Edney. Detectives also learned the location where the stolen laptop might possibly be located.

Detectives served search warrants at both Edney's and Avila's residences. Detectives found the stolen laptop on Kevin Avila's bed. Also in his room, detectives found approximately one pound of marijuana and a loaded handgun. A further search of Avila's vehicle—a white Chevy Camaro—resulted in the finding of four smaller baggies of marijuana.

Edney was located at his residence and arrested for his role in the commission in the home invasion robbery. Avila was arrested for possessing stolen property, sales of marijuana, and possessing a handgun with serial numbers removed.

The investigation of this case continues. If anyone can help us find who may also be involved in the robbery, please call the DHS PD at 760-329-2904. You can remain anonymous.
