Solar Cell Enhancement From MIT

By simply putting a thin coat of some cheap automotive paint on a pane of glass, scientists at MIT are able to increase the electrical power from a solar cell "by a factor of 40." The cheap coloring causes the glass to absorb certain wavelengths of light which are then transmitted to the edge of the glass where the solar cell absorbs it. Video explanation here.

The paint is cheap, the application is not difficult, and they expect to have this on the market in about three years. The final, net effect of this design is the ability to eliminate massive solar concentrators and to DOUBLE the output from a solar array. You don't get 40 times the output because you don't cover the glass solid with solar cells. The glass can be simultaneously used as a window.
