Great News From Kodak

Today, Kodak announced a new line of printers will be available in March. The chief advantages of these new printers are

  • The ink cartridges will be substantially cheaper than what we're used to paying: $10 for black, $15 for color.
  • The pigments will be MUCH longer lasting than the stuff we've been using up to now. Photos printed with the new Kodak ink are expected to stay bright for 100 years!

The drawback is the new printers are more expensive, but not by very much. Here is the least expensive of the new printers, the Kodak EasyShare 5100 which will set you back only $150! Besides printing, it's also a scanner and a photocopier. The top-of-the-line 5300 is only $300 and adds fax capability. It also features a 2.4 inch screen where you can edit your photos.

Here's the Business Week story on the printing system. And here's the one from PC World.
