Desert Sun Goes Into More Detail On "Operation Falling Sun"

Reporter Keith Matheny was brought in on preparations for the huge series of raids two months before "D-Day." The article includes links to videos of Chief Pat Williams and City Manager Rick Daniels discussing crime in the city. This morning I'm getting Pepto-Bismol ads before and after every video. Someone has done some demographic research showing that intestinal problems are THE big sales motivation in this valley, I think.

Another article, this one presenting Chief Williams's views on the background of crime in DHS.

"My perspective is that all of the other communities in this valley have done a fairly good job of pushing their crooks out of town, with a high level of suppression and enforcement," he said.

"And they've been able to displace their problems into our community."

There are also links to videos of District Attorney Rod Pacheco as well as Chief Williams and City Manager Daniels.

Here's the long history of crime in Desert Hot Springs, going back to 1994 when the West Drive Locos gang was formed, three years before the formation of the police department which then suffered under revolving door chiefs, most of whom were interim, at least one of which was a convicted felon.
