Blood Drive June 4

Blood Drive Flyer for LeBleu

Christopher LeBleu

Lance Cpl. Christopher R. LeBleu, a 22-year-old marine stationed at Twentynine Palms, received a complete liver transplant after suffering unexplained total liver failure. Christopher received numerous blood transfusions before, during, and after his transplant and will continue to require additional blood and blood components. Christopher received a second chance at life due to the generosity of volunteer blood donors. You have the power to donate life! Donate blood today and give patients, like Christopher, hope for a healthier and happier tomorrow!

This is Melany LeBleu, Cpl. Christopher LeBleu's wife. It's 11:15pm, August 12, 2008 and in only a few short hours will mark a year since Chris passed away. I am sitting here searching for links that have his story and I happened upon this one. There are no words to discribe how wonderful it is to still see his picture and story being used to help save lives. I send many Thanks to all who donate blood, organs, tissue, and marrow. If it wouldn't have been for those faithful donors Chris would not have lived those two and a half years after his transplant. He received anywhere from 5 or more blood transfusions a week for a few months after his transplant to receiving 2-4 transfusions a month nearly 6 months post transplant until a few days before his death. Those transfusions are what kept him alive.

THANK YOU!

With all my love,
Melany LeBleu

The American Red Cross's ban on "gay blood" is actually a bit broader than just that. Here on their website they say that anyone who is "at risk for becoming infected with HIV" should not give blood. Then in the list of those who are at risk for HIV one of the items is this: "a male who has had sexual contact with another male, even once, since 1977." So, if some guy got a hand job from another guy back in the late 70s, he should not donate blood, even if he's as straight and pure as the governor of California, just by way of example.

To put that in perspective, another item on the list says you should not donate blood if in the last 12 months you have had sex with a prostitute. So, the man who went to Vegas in April 2007 and had sex with a half dozen female (genuine female) skanky prostitutes he picked up on the strip can donate blood today.

IOW, I think the American Red Cross's priorities are a bit skewed.

Isn't gay blood still banned along with plastic bags?
