Home Again

Just got home from L.A. a couple of hours ago, thanks to a ride from J.Z. who came to the closing ceremonies for AIDS LifeCycle 3 at Dodger Stadium.

I heard people saying "What happens on LifeCycle stays on LifeCycle." Ha, sorry. I signed a lot of things to do LifeCycle, but nothing like that. If they want it to stay on LifeCycle, they shouldn't do it in front of me.

But no beans will be spilled tonight. I'm exhausted and seriously sleep-deprived. I'm just checking in and will go crash immediately.

1203 riders started (and very nearly that many finished).

365 roadies (including me).

Either $4.3 million or $5 million raised. I think I heard both figures.

I drove our team's 24-foot diesel truck from Santa Maria to Dodger Stadium and probably didn't kill any significant people in the process. I did crush one shopping cart, however. That was fun!

The Mac wi-fi updating-the-weblog thing obviously did not work. It might work for a cyclist because the cyclists have a LOT more free time than the roadies, and they have much greater freedom of movement. I worked nearly the whole time I was in camp. When not working I was eating, showering or sleeping. There might have been a scattered minute here or there where I could just admire a view or grab a quick nap on the pavement. When I was out of camp I was on the truck and in a rush to make it to the next camp. We saw some Starbucks here and there, but dropping into one to update the weblog was totally out of the question.

The only sidetrip we made was in San Luis Obispo. My real estate guy had called the day before to tell me that my condo-buyer had finally agreed to my counter-offer and signed the P&S. I knew we'd be passing through SLO and that it would be big enough to have a Staples, so I got their fax number and had my R.E. guy send it there. When we got there, the fax hadn't arrived, so I had to phone him for a re-send, wait for that, read it over, sign it and send it back (which took two tries). We were probably stopped in SLO for 45 minutes. But the point is, the condo sale is on track for a closing on July 9.

The Mac, however, was great as a backup and storage place for my photos. I've got two copies of every photo, except for the ones I shot today, as I copied them to the Mac and burned them to CDs. Never even exhausted the battery.

There are many, many photos. Stories too. Will tell all eventually. But must sleep.
